"Prioriatory Restrictions Severely Limit Use" 2009-12-25
By Michael Whalen (San Diego)
Sansa Fuze use rude metadata restrictions to playing picture and video files--no WAVs, no MOVs, no standard format works. SanDisk seems to be keeping a lid on their encoding so there are no third party applications you can get. Result is that you can only use SanDisk's SMC software to convert. In my hunt for an alternative I have found nothing.

The input jack at the bottom looks like a standard docking jack--but its NOT. Prioriatory again! Standard docking devices will not work.

If you are on Mac you are out of luck. If you don't like the slow, kludgy SMC you are out of luck. If you have a docking device you are out of luck. You just paid a lot of money for a player in which most of the features are probably not what you thought you were getting.

The management at SanDisk seems to be dead set on driving people towards the iPod.

"Wow - I can't believe there are any negative reviews!" 2009-12-04
By S. Cordell (Tennessee, USA)
As I said in my title; I can't believe there are negative things to be said about these! That said, I guess there are "bad builds" and flaws in certain parts as with ANY product. As for us, however, we've found Sandisk to be an awesome company with very reliable products. We started buying Sansas several years ago when the ones with no screens were on sale for $89.99 at Best Buy for 1 gig! We bought 3 of them. They died violent deaths at the hands of the men in my family... city worker crushing it repeatedly in a pocket full of keys, landscaping son mowing in 100+ degree heat and then going into air conditioning repeatedly caused one screen to go out - and that's how we discovered the Fuze - we'd bought 2 yr. replacement warranties with them. Loved them so much, we gave the third old one (that still works) to a friend and I went onto Amazon and bought 2 more Fuzes (4 gigs). I just bought an 8 gig on Black Friday and haven't had problems from any. Guess we're pretty fortunate that way. Wow, if we were only so fortunate with our vehicles!!!

"you're lucky if you get one that works!" 2009-12-02
By michelle m ballas (Indiana, USA)
Im the last 4 years I've purchased 3 sansa players. The first, an older 2g model, for my husband. It worked just fine for about three months then the screen stopped working and he was no longer able to add songs. He still uses the device for work commutes but cannot choose what he wants to hear, as he cannot use the screen to navigate his music.

I bought the pink 4g fuze earlier this year, have absolutely no complaints on that one. Never froze up or malfunctioned. I loved it, it was a fair price too. It was stolen from my car this summer, unfortunately.

I repurchased the same pink 4g fuze....not so lucky with this one....sigh....nothing but freezing up and not being able to shut it off. Every time i try to add new music it freaks out and freezes up. It won't tell me if i've added bad tracks or not. Not sure what to do, but would really like to chuck it ut the window! The purpose of a portable music device it to be able to hear what you want to when you want to, but all i get to hear is what the dumb thing allows me to...that is when its not frozen! I find it so terribly ironic that the only sansa that worked well was the one that got stolen. I will not be buying any more sansa players, despite the ease of sync-ing and how well it adapts to windows media player....its just too much to ask that at roughly $80 a pop, you might get a good one, or get a rediculously bad one!

I purchased the zune 30g today for my husband for christmas, I'm keeping my fingers crossed til they almost fall off that the zune won't be a waste of my hard-earned money like a sansa!!!

"Surprised by the power in this little package!" 2009-11-24
By S. Paris (Annapolis, MD United States)
I bought this little pink Sansa Fuze about a month ago and have had a chance to play with all the features. It didn't take me long to figure out how to use it. I downloaded the updated software from the Sansa website, and also downloaded the media converter. Everything worked great. I've loaded 4 short videos, about 40 photos and about 80 songs. There is lots of room on the 4GBs left. I will probably not max it out anytime soon. I also downloaded one book. I like the little wheel you can turn to make a selection. I tested the voice recording feature and that worked fine, too. I took it with me on an airplane trip last week and it worked great. I didn't have access to a charger on my trip and after four days of use, it still had juice. The pink color is darker in person than it appears in the photo online. I would almost call it a magenta/rose. I highly recommend this MP3 player!
